Why you should switch to vaporizing

Updated: Jun 9, 2019

There really is a huge number of ways to enjoy your dry herbs. Joints, pipes, aluminium cans?. Unfortunately what all of these methods have you burning the herbs which 1. Tastes pretty bad and 2. Releases any and all nasties in the material.

Cmon’ it’s 2019, we can do better. And of course there is a solution: Dry herb vaporizers. These have been around since mid 2000s but only recently have become practically affordable.

A dry herb vaporizer works a little differently to the nicotine ‘e-cigs’. A dry herb vaporizer is like little fan forced oven, sending heated air over your herbs. This way, instead of burning herbs the temperature control on these devices allows the user to choose which compounds they want to ingest and avoid potentially harmful ones present are higher temperatures.

Whether you smoke herb for medical reasons or just recreational there’s a lot of reasons to invest in a dry herb vaporizer.

Better for you long term

I know I know, I’ve heard smoking Marijuana doesn’t cause cancer. I have that friend too. But the truth of the matter is burning something and then inhaling it isn’t good for you. In fact There have also been reports of an increase in respiratory symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, and persistent coughing in people who smoke pot. Basically there can be physical damage to your lungs and airways.

A dry herb vaporizer can get closer to negating this effect by taking the material up to the point of boiling the active compounds (the CBD and THC) without sending the harmful by-products into you along with them.

More control of your dose

A common issue among smokers is controlling your dosage when smoking you herb. Burning herb as you can imagine takes the herb up to a high temp very very quickly, shooting everything in the material out at once. With a vaporizer you can control the temperature and vape you batch at a slower controlled pace. Want more THC or CBD?

Change the temp or vape longer, like the old saying: you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube (thanks mum).

This can be particularly helpful for pain relief, at lower temperatures you tend to vaporize more CBD than THC giving the user more pain relief with less of the ‘high’.

Less waste

Smoking a joint is a lot like a race against time, you only really have so long before the thing goes up in smoke. Unlike a joint a vaporizer retains its vapor in between puffs, that smoke you see rising from your joint however that’s long gone.

Even beyond that you can save your Already Vaped Bud (AVB) to make edibles later!

Discreet

While still noticeable by the vapor and smell, a dry herb vaporizer is far more discreet than anything else and opens up a whole realm of opportunities. In general a herbal vaporizer looks much like a e-cig but without the huge plume of smoke.

You can further mask the smell of your herb by mixing in some aromatic herbs like thyme or rosemary (eHerbalist has a vaporizing mix which is perfect for this).

You'll Taste The Flavor More

Smoking herbs is a lot like smoking anything, it tastes a lot like burnt plants. Okay, maybe that's a bit harsh but when you compare the two you’ll find when smoking you miss much of the flavor.

Cannabis contains a huge variety of Trichomes which can easily be destroyed in the combustion process (oh really?) These can range from floral to citrus and anything in between depending on your strain.

Cost-Effective

A dry herb vaporizer can be an investment (especially for a top shelf one) but in the long term they can save you in the long run.

The logic behind this is that vaporizing actually requires less material to reach the same levels. According to a study conducted by California NORML, vaporizers convert approximately 46 percent of available THC into vapor, whereas the average joint converts less than 25 percent of THC into smoke. That's almost twice as effective!

And remember, you can save your left over AVB to re-use later so it's a win-win,

It’s effective

What's the point of it if it doesn’t work right? While a vaporizer takes longer to extract all the herb it does get there, even more so when you decide to invest in a high-quality vaporizer.

If you’re planning to continue smoking for any sizeable length of time, you should consider picking one up. There are many amazing portable vaporizers on the market now and the industry is just getting started.
